These rules often times have no basis in any real belief or experience, but in a sense of what is right or appropriate. When I come up against these sort of beliefs, I try to remember to ask myself "why?" Why do I think this? Also, what would be the result if I did not hold this belief? It's a really passive-aggressive way to manipulate a relationship.
