Social Mores Coming Back Into Fashion: South Korean Actress Publicly Humiliated For Adultery

Actress Ok So-ri convicted of adultery

Actress Ok So-ri convicted of adultery

As the world economy melts down, a large number of what we consider our “enlightened” social mores or behavior is thrown right out along with demonstrably idiotic economic behavior. That is, humans cannot seem to keep from throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

One of South Korea’s most famous actresses was convicted of adultery Wednesday in a high-profile case that drew renewed attention to a decades-old law prohibiting extramarital affairs.

Ok So-ri, who was handed a suspended jail term, had lost a battle in October to have the ban declared unconstitutional.

The AP article (From sfgate.com) goes on to indict Confucianism as the social culprit, but I believe that is wrong. People familiar with Koreans know that a very conservative branch of Presbyterianism profoundly influences Korean culture.

A comment following the San Francisco Chronicle article is especially pertinent:

Be not ashamed of mistakes and thus make them crimes. Confucius

What do you think: Will growing economic conservatism result in social conservatism?

Men with traditional values earn more

without comments

From Scientific Blogging:

Timothy Judge, PhD, and Beth Livingston from the University of Florida say that sexism still exists and it has positive effects on income … if you’re a man. Their study says men who believe in what they call traditional roles for women (whether they believed a woman’s place is in the home, whether employing wives leads to more juvenile delinquency, whether a man should be the primary earner and if the woman should take care of the home and family) earn more money than men who don’t, though women with more traditional outlooks don’t make much more than women with more egalitarian views.

From my personal experience, I was once highly motivated to make a lot of money to be able to care for my wife at the time. Her employment was somewhat hampered by a health issue. I felt duty-bound to earn for both of us.

What’s your personal experience?

Emotional Manipulation by Miscommunication

without comments

Miscommunication is frame-control manipulation by one party assuming the right to dictate arbitrary and changing terms of communication at the expense of another party.

This can also called “he said, she said” where the “he” and “she” are absolutely independent of the actual gender of the participants.

The way miscommunication often plays out is that one party (the “obtuse” person) makes an emotionally-based assumption about the intentions of the other party (the “didactic” party), then uses this assumption to seize and maintain frame control. Efforts at clarifying communication are pointless while the obtuse party is suffering from the emotional compulsion to dominate frame.

IMBRA - An attack against the human rights of American men

with 7 comments

IMBRA is a legalized way to have American men supplicate to women and for American women to win the battle against undesired competition, without having to be a woman to their men.

The International Marriage Broker Regulation Act makes it a felony for an internet dating company, that primarily focuses on introducing Americans to foreigners, to allow any American to communicate with any person of foreign nationality without first subjecting that American to a criminal background check, a sex offender check and without first having the American certify any previous convictions or arrests, any previous marriages or divorces any children and all states of residence.

The law was passed after feminist groups made claims that foreign women who marry American men are subjected to higher rates of abuse than are American women.

In reality things don´t seem to be so black and white as the law would indicate.

The Magic Pussy Syndrome (from the Archive)

without comments

First of all, special thanks to both Franco and David Clare for helping out with this material.

The Magic Pussy Syndrome (MPS) is the belief that because a woman has a pussy, she is entitled to special privileges at other people’s expense. Like free drinks. Free dinner. Alimony. Child Support. The list goes on. In contrast, most average, frustrated men you know will gladly pay for everything, and at retail prices! Read the rest of this entry »
