Most men and a fair number of women loathe Valentines Day as one of those reprehensible hallmark holidays designed to sell greeting cards.

I used to loathe V Day myself.

Now, I just roll with it…

In fact, I take the lead, and plan out the day’s “festivities.” You should be doing this too.

See, most men wait with dread until their woman (who has dreading bringing it up) asks “So, what are we doing for Valentine’s Day?”

Even though most men have dreaded this question, they still haven’t made acceptable plans… so they have no acceptable answer.

Here’s the deal: think of Valentine’s Day as a day you plan to enjoy her undivided attention.

“How you do dat?”

I hear questions roaring in.

It’s pretty simple.

You decide what she can to to please you, then you followup with the usual sorts of traditional stuffola (chocolate, flowers, etc) provided she likes that sort of thing.

I like good home cooking. So I ask for a special meal (lots of meat). This year I asked her to cook up a pork tenderloin with potatoes and apples, and arugula/pannacetta/poached egg salad on the side. She is happy to oblige because she knows that I will be in a great mood all day and not acting like a testicle because some marketing jerk at a greeting card company has decided I have to be even more of symp than society demands on regular days.

Whether she likes chocolate or flowers or whatever, she still gets to be able to tell her girlfriends at work that you “complied” with the dictates of The Day, which, if you know how women are, and you better by now, will make her happier than either the chocolates or the flowers.

We’ll watch a nice movie, something with enough emotional content for her, and enough social dynamics for me, then… well, let’s just say the night will end very well indeed.
